The Golden Bear Limited Edition Print by John A. Ruthven
A limited edition print depicting the Upper Arlington High School Mascot, the “Golden Bear”, is an original work by world-renowned wildlife artist John A. Ruthven. Commissioned by the Upper Arlington Booster Club, this Kodiak Island Grizzly, commonly known as the Golden Bear, was Ruthven’s first painting of a grizzly and his first ever high school mascot commission.
Ruthven is a native Cincinnatian who engaged in commercial art throughout his career before founding Wildlife Internationale, Inc. which exclusively publishes his limited edition lithographs from originals depicting all aspects of wildlife, both common and endangered species. Ruthven has been honored for his work with groups including Ducks Unlimited, First Ohio Duck and Animal Stamp Artist, Smithsonian Institution, Audubon Society, and numerous government commissions.
A limited number of high school and college or university mascot paintings have been commissioned during Ruthven’s career. The artist is in residence and maintains a studio in Georgetown, Ohio in the rural southwest part of the state. Additional information on the artist is available at www.ruthven.com.
